My Bio
I am Dr. Maria "Masha" Pisarenko, the heart and soul behind the Las Vegas Piano School & Online Piano University. With over 35 years of professional piano playing and more than 20 years of teaching experience, I am proud to offer comprehensive piano instruction and music theory/history classes to children and adults of all ages and levels. As a certified piano teacher in Las Vegas, I am dedicated to providing the highest quality of piano education.
My musical journey began in the small Siberian town of Angarsk, Russia. I discovered my passion for piano at the age of five and gave my first solo recital at seven. By eight, I was already performing as a soloist with symphony orchestras. Recognized as a child prodigy, I was chosen at 12 to study at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory School for gifted children. My academic achievements continued as I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Piano Performance from the Gnessins Russian Academy of Music and later received a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Piano Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
My performance career has been extensive and international, with solo and chamber recitals and concertos across four continents in over 20 countries, including Russia and the United States. I have garnered acclaim and numerous awards at international piano competitions and festivals, such as the International Piano Competition in Memory of Sviatoslav Richter in Paris and the Frederick Chopin International Organization Competition in Rome. My talents were further recognized with the Steinway Top Teacher Award in 2018.
Currently, I serve as a Music Faculty and Piano Instructor at both the College of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas, and Southern Utah University, Cedar City. I am deeply involved in the cultural and musical life of the community as a performer, educator, artistic director, and public figure. I promote world music and culture, including Russian music and culture, through performances, masterclasses, and an intensive concert schedule that takes me around the globe. I am also a proud board member of the Las Vegas Music Teachers' Association (LVMTA) and a member of the National Music Teachers' Association (NMTA).

My Teaching Philosophy
At my Las Vegas Piano School & Online Piano University, I take pride in the unique and systematic approach I've developed over decades of teaching piano to children and adults from diverse backgrounds. My method is not just unique in Las Vegas but across the country, blending the best of American and European/Russian music education systems to deliver results that truly stand out.
My teaching philosophy is anchored in a combination of the American Music Education System and the rich traditions of European and Russian music and piano training. This fusion ensures that every student benefits from a comprehensive and successful learning experience. To support this, I utilize a range of traditional American study materials alongside European and Russian piano and solfeggio/theory books. Moreover, I design and produce my own study materials , piano courses, and method books, tailoring them to meet the individual needs and aspirations of each student.
The success of my students is my utmost priority. I actively encourage their growth and development by organizing public student recitals and entering them in music festivals and competitions, including those organized by the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association (LVMTA). These opportunities not only showcase their talents but also bolster their confidence and musical journey.
In my teaching, I draw upon all the traditions and knowledge I have been exposed to during my extensive studies in Europe, Russia, and the United States. I firmly believe that natural talents and abilities can be discovered and nurtured in anyone, regardless of age. My students range from 3 to 78 years old, proving that it is never too early or too late to start learning the piano.
